Key to health: Mindfulness

"By brooding over the future, and repenting the past, fools dry up like green reeds cut down(in the sun)"
~Samyutta Nikaya

"You haven't got to perform any particular action in order to develop mindfulness, but you have only to be me mindful and aware of whatever you may do."

~What the Buddha Taught, Rahula, Walpola

Why does Yoga relate to mindfulness?
Why does this help Gallstones?

One could begin studying Yoga and never finish.  The important thing about a spiritual practice is that it is a place of reflection that you can turn to and grow.  I believe that among other conditions, healing does also  require an outlook, a method, and an innerness that is fostered.  Yoga, as it has always been, serves as a respite from constraints due to wrong thinking, serves to control the mind, serves as a place of reflection, and as an ever nourishing source of helpful feelings, thoughts, and ideas. It is good to have recourse to ongoing spiritual development and Yoga has both a means to increasing the joy in life through mindfulness in meditation, and in encouraging eating more mindfully; thus helping people with Gallstones to make better choices.

It is important to recognize that one does not need to be an expert or an adept in order to benefit from spirituality.  It is also important to recognize that one does not have to exclude nor include the religion of their family.  What Yoga is for someone with gallstones, is a time set aside for reflection that carries over into the way life is conducted.  It is important to be grateful for what one already does to keep themselves healthy. If service is already a part of your life, then you can calmly appreciate the strength that flows from being in communion with other people. Even taking the time to appreciate what already is working in life, is a valuable healing meditation. Love There is a time for  reservation and conservation, as well as a time for sharing and communing.  People with Gallstones may find that they have to balance the ascetic and abstemiousness life with the epicurean and feast-loving communal experience.  Mindfulness helps you remember that what is important is simple and available to you now.

Yoga has roots in India and in a preservation of wisdom outside of the casting of society.  As capoeira in Brazil came from slaves from West Africa who were practicing fighting skills through a beautiful dance, Yoga is a preservation of dignity and essential oneness for people who were being taught that they were of a certain caste.   One could imagine that Yoga is the ability for all people to have skills in living in society as it exists  now.  Soul is being dragged out of us constantly by the pressures of our world is it not?  We must have strength to be quiet, to persist, to preserve, and so that we may give love from a good place.
